Learning Spanish while you are living in Valencia, or anywhere else in Spain for that matter, means enjoying endless opportunities to enrich your experience of Spain by taking part in the countless cultural events that characterise Spanish life. In March in particular there are lots of things to do in Valencia. Because Fallas covers practically the entire month, attendance at some of the main events of this most essentially Valencian of festivals is to be expected. For example, an evening Mascletà at the Plaza Ayuntamiento. This can be a good excuse to get involved with the locals and take advantage of the opportunity to chat to them a bit in Spanish.
An evening mascletà with fountains of gunpowder and flashing colours will paint the sky on Saturday 9th of March above the Plaza Ayuntamiento. The show will kick off at 12:00 midnight, so if you’re looking for something to give you a different kind of Saturday night buzz, then perhaps this late night sensory assault will be just the ticket. Don’t forget to get there in good time so as to nab a prime spot close to the centre of the action where you can be sure to have your head blasted right off..!
Free orange juice and horchata
As part of the Fallas 2019, you can enjoy drinking orange juice and horchata for free from 12:00 midday to 14:00h on Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th at the Plaza de Toros in Valencia city centre. At the same time as you are enjoying these emblematic Valencian drinks, you can also groove to music provided by DJs while browsing the wares being displayed by Productores de la Comunidad Valenciana.
One thousand litres of horchata will be used on Tuesday, and two thousand oranges on Wednesday, to produce these homemade drinks.
Mostra de Artesanía ‘Mercat de Falles’
The Colón Market will welcome the Mostra de Artesanía ‘Mercat de Falles’ from 15th to 19th of March, where local craftsmen can display and sell their creations. The fun is in strolling around observing the craftsmen demonstrating these ancient professions and perusing their high-quality artisanal products. There you will find ceramics, jewelry, original toys, etc. Everything on offer is unique and handmade.
Dates: 15th – 19th of March from 11:00 to 14:00h and from 17:00 – 21:00h.
All of these events are held in the centre of Valencia very close to Interland School of Languages, an academy where you can learn Spanish either before or after going along to enjoy the activities described above. We will be waiting for you!
